    New Networking Opportunities

One of the newest items on the menu of the Columbus, Ohio chapter of the IUAA is the monthly networking breakfast. Meeting on the second Thursday of every month, professionals are gathering at Camille’s on Lane Avenue for breakfast and good conversation or BW3's on Bethel after work (See home page for details). Columbus Chapter President Leslie Zimmerman says more than a dozen people have shown up to talk about jobs and other assorted topics each month.

“We go around the table and talk about ourselves and our businesses and what a good lead would be,” Zimmerman says. The group has included business professionals looking to expand their businesses and others looking for jobs or new opportunities. They know Hoosiers in Columbus will help each other out!

The objective of the group is two-fold: to expand IU connections and to further a network of professional contacts. A byproduct of these gatherings is to make new friends.

Those in attendance at recent networking breakfasts have such diverse careers as real estate broker, lawyer, project manager and directors to name a few. The group meets to connect, reconnect and exchange ideas and information and help one another make a difference in their careers, work/life balance and personal growth.

The networking group is looking to expand the initial group of people that have joined. If you currently reside in Columbus, have a degree from IU and want to broaden your connections, then this offering is for you!

“This is a great addition to what we’ve already done,” Zimmerman says. The IUAA Columbus chapter has been active and successful since 2000, winning honors for several years at the Cream & Crimson Weekend. Members gather to watch basketball games in the winter, participate in food, toy and clothing drives for the needy and Habitat for Humanity projects, attend happy hours for more social networking, and sponsor animals at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium as well as scholarships to Columbus high school students attending IU.
